HOW TO MEASURE WITH A BORE DIAL GAUGE ?
NAME OF EXPERIMENT: MEASURING WITH BORE DIAL GAUGE
TOOLS REQUIRED: Set
gauge/screw gauge, bore dial gauge set, telescopic gauge/Vernier caliper.
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
cotton waste, kerosene.
PROCEDURE
1.
Clean the cylinder bore to be measured.
2.
Measure
the bore diameter with the help of telescopic gauge or Vernier caliper and note
down the value.
3.
Make
sure that, the reading shouldtake at the ridge of the cylinder bore.
4.
Fix
the dial indicator into instrument.
5.
Adjust
the revolution counter dial to zero by adjusting screw and lock the position.
6.
Select
suitable size of anvil and washers ( the distance between the end of plunger
and extreme end of fixed anvil should always just above the measured bore
diameter).
7.
Copy
the bore diameter value onto the set gauge or micrometre and set the bore dial gauge
length as the diameter of the cylinder bore.
8.
At
that position, set zero against the dial by adjusting the bezel of the dial
test indicator and lock the position.
9.
Take
out the dial test indicator.
10.
Insert
the bore dial gauge into the bore.
11.
Made
fixed anvil as the stationary point, rock the bore dial gauge.
12.
Note
down the point at which, the dial will travel back (it may on the left or right
side of the zero)
13.
Count
down the graduation to/ from the zero
14.
If
it is left side of the zero, add the value of graduations counted with the
measured bore diameter.
15.
If
it is right side of the zero, subtract the value of graduations counted from
the measured bore diameter.
16.
Repeat
the procedure 10 to 15 at different positions.
17.
Tabulate
the values and take the average of final result of different sections.
